First, you need to determine where the file is on your computer.
Is it under one of the following locations?
Desktop
Current Jobs
Completed Jobs
C Drive (known as your hard drive and where your programs are at)
DVD Drive (D:)
(E:)
(F:) Flash Drive (portable small device which you attach using a USP port)
(If you have problems determining this, just call me. I can help you find it.)
Once you know where the file is located, attaching or uploading the file is very easy. You usually have a couple of
different choices.
Case CATalyst Files
1. When you are ready to send the file to your scopist, close the file but have it visible in your Manage Jobs tab.
2. Right click the file with your mouse and choose Backup. Backup the file to a place where you will always know
where the completed files are. The backup function is essentially the same thing as zipping the text, dictionary, notes
and audio files together for you.
Eclipse Files
1. You can upload the file from the program it uses, meaning it will come from the C Drive, Program Files, Program
Name (probably CAT), User Name
**The actual file will have to be closed in order for you to send it though.
2. Or simply open your email account and click the attach button. This will open your browser window to find the
file. It will likely prompt you to ‘open’ the file but it will not actually open it, it will simply attach it. This is what it may
look like in your browser window:

My Computer
Floppy Drive (A:)

3. Click on whichever location it is in until you find it.
**The file must be closed in order to attach and send it.

Large Audio File Transfer Programs (FTPs)
Large audio files typically are sent through other server programs because they are too large for most email accounts.
Some Internet sites are:
T3.com, sendthisfile.com*, whalemail.com, MegaUpload*.com and youconvertit.com*
*Denote FREE accounts
When you use these programs, click on the “send files” link. Most programs will prompt you for an email address as
to who you are sending the file to. Then fill in the box if you have instructions to go with the files. After that, you will
need to fill in the prompt for “which” file to send. Find the file in the browser window and click the “send” button.
The file transfer program will sometimes provide a measurement bar for you to see how quickly the uploading process
is happening. Some do not provide this but there is no need to worry.
Once it has uploaded the file, that program will send an email with a link to the email address you were sending it to
for the file to be picked up. That’s it. It’s just that simple.

Scoping Made Affordable (SMA) graduates are trained to work with a court reporter's dictionary if the court reporter would like to take advantage of that service. Because the graduates are trained to understand the stenographic language, they are also trained on how to make entries in your CAT dictionary. The SMA graduates are also instructed on the difference between the personal dictionary, the job dictionary and any other dictionaries that you want built up. These can be medical terminology, zoning board meetings or terminology related to patents to name just a few. Most court reporters understand that the translation process that the CAT programs provide is only as good and the court reporter is accurate with their stenographic strokes. The more words that can be added to your dictionary, the better job the translation process will be. If we increase the translation efficiency, we decrease the amount of time spent in the scoping process. |
