Explain the difference between colloquy and Q & A: Colloquy (pronounced kollakwee) is dialogue between the judge and counsel in court proceedings and between attorneys in depositions, and can also include the defendant or witness. Colloquy has the Speaker Names indented and written in CAPS. Q & A is the abbreviated version of Question and Answer. The most important thing to note about Q & A is that it always has to begin with a BY line. The BY line will include the questioner’s name, usually one of the attorneys, but does not include the word “line.” The "BY" line is used as the introduction for the Q & A process because it identifies who is doing the questioning. It usually looks like so: BY MR. SMITH (Yes, it is always written in CAPS.) 3. What is the formatting term for action in the proceeding? A parenthetical. 4.
